550 Paracord Base Colours – 4mm Bundles
Original Paracord is a ”U.S. made” nylon cord that consists of a core of threads in a woven nylon jacket. The word ‘Paracord’ comes from its use by American paratroopers during the Second World War. After a parachute landing the cord would be cut from the parachute and used for all kinds of applications. Because of its popularity today the cord is available in many variants of varying quality. The Paracord Type III 550 is the most used Paracord and can be found in certain craft stores.

What is Mil-spec, Paracord?
The quality requirements and the production process of the original paracord are laid down in military specifications (Mil-Spec) of the US Army. This paracord is produced as MIL-C-5040H Type III Paracord. The MIL-C-5040H Type III is produced more tightly and yet smoother in use. If you are looking for a paracord to use during outdoor activities we recommend the MIL-C-5040H Type III. The production costs of the “Mil spec” are higher than those of the Paracord 550.
