PPM Rope

What is PPM Cord

PPM rope, which stands for Polypropylene Multifilament, is braided bouyant and easy to clean rope . It is durable, water-resistant, and non-toxic, making it popular for crafting items like dog leashes and collars, horse halters, and even for use on boats and yachts. Its low water absorption means it dries quickly and doesn’t get dirty easily.

PPM rope, or Polypropylene Multifilament rope, is an addition to our product range designed for larger diameters and flat rope styles without a core. Thanks to the properties of polypropylene, PPM rope is widely used for making dog leads and horse halters. Below is a summary of some key properties of PPM rope:

PPM Rope Properties:

Shiny and lightweight – Easy to knot; inelastic – Floats and absorbs very little moisture – Non-toxic and safe for both humans and animals  – Resistant to mold and rot; easy to clean – Made from high-tenacity polypropylene multifilament strands – Density of 0.91 g/cm³ (it floats) – Washable at 30ºC – Manufactured in the EU

Difference Between PPM Rope and Paracord

PPM rope is similar to kernmantle rope, like Paracord, but it can also be produced without a core (as in the case of PPM flat rope). The differences between PPM rope and Paracord lie in the basic material, weaving technique, and the relationship between the core and sheath. Our “US Made Paracord” is made from polyamide (commonly known as nylon), while PPM rope is made from polypropylene. These two materials possess different characteristics. The following table outlines some important properties comparing PPM rope to Paracord.

PPM Rope 10 mm Round with Core

This sturdy, round braided PPM rope has a diameter of 10 mm. Similar to Paracord, this PPM rope has both a core and a sheath. It is comparable in diameter to Paracord Type V, but the sheath of this PPM rope is thicker while the core is thinner. Braided with 16 strands, it has a breaking force of 520 daN (kg). This rope is often used for tying horse halters, but it is also suitable for water sports and various hobby projects. Once again, PPM rope floats!

Flat PPM Rope Without a Core

Flat PPM rope, made without a core, is particularly suited for creating dog leads and horse halters. Because this PPM cord is woven without a core, it is easy to splice, and loops can be made effortlessly using a rope splicing kit (such as a Selma splicing needle). PPM rope comes in various thicknesses: PPM 8 mm is relatively thin and is most commonly used for making dog leads, while PPM 12 mm is thicker and is frequently used for horse halters. Check out this video to see how flat PPM rope can easily be turned into a dog lead. The possibilities are endless!

Our polypropylene rope is perfect if you’re transporting large goods over a long distance and you need a sturdy, reliable means of tying them down. Its superior strength makes it a great, cost-effective solution for all kinds of load restraint requirements.
